What a boutique consultancy has to do with AI

Turns out the future of the hotels we love runs straight through AI

What does MAp, a boutique consultancy, have to do with AI? It's a fair question. For a long time we'd have said not much. Then we saw how guests were starting to find their hotels, and it changed our minds!

Because think about who we work with: Small, independent hotels, run by the people who own them, with a real concept and real care for the planet and their guests. The sort of place you still think about long after you've left. We work with them because we believe in them!

And a hotel that does things right is only the better choice if someone can find it.

We've always told these hotels to focus on the real work. Cut the waste, look after your team, build a place worth staying at, and guests will come. We still think that's true. What's changed is how guests find you in the first place.

More and more of them don't search any more, they ask an AI. Someone types "a small place by the sea that cares about its footprint" into ChatGPT, and it comes back with two or three names. If you're not one of them, the guest never even hears about you. It isn't about how good you are. It's about whether the AI picked you up.

And here's what we keep seeing: the hotels doing the most careful work are often the hardest to find online. They're busy running a good house, not chasing algorithms. The bigger, louder places get seen first, whether they've earned it or not.

So that's how we ended up caring about AI. On paper the two have nothing in common. In practice, for the hotels we love, they're the same fight.

A more sustainable hotel is only the better choice if it gets shown

If the most thoughtful place in town never shows up in an AI answer, the guest books the one that did. The good work is still there, it just doesn't reach anyone. So for these hotels, visibility isn't a marketing nicety. It's how their impact gets a chance.

For us that makes AI visibility part of the same job, not a side project! Every time a low-impact hotel gets recommended instead of a wasteful one, that's a small win for the kind of hospitality we want to see more of. ☻

Making hospitality kinder and more sustainable has always been the point for us. Making sure the hotels that do that don't quietly drop out of AI results is simply the next part of it. That's why we help purpose-led hotels get seen by AI, so your values reach the guest. Find out more here.
